We are delighted to be running The York Centre together. We are committed to championing the high quality psychotherapy (therapy), counselling, coaching and other specialist support that has been available at the York Centre for over 16 years. We will keep developing the centre as a compassionate, inclusive and transformative experience for people of all ages.
We also co-chair the very active and enthusiastic Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire Peer Group for Human Givens Therapists.
Do keep visiting the website as new events and services become available, as we expand support available in-person at 33 Bishopthorpe Road and online to meet your needs.
Whether you are a returning client or taking your first step, everyone involved in the centre is here to guide and support you.
You can find out more about the centre and how we work here.
With warm wishes
Emma Grey and Ingrid Steele.
Claire Morris was co-owner of The York Centre from August 2022 with her business partner and close friend Janette Yates. She very sadly passed away on 21 May 2026.
Claire dedicated her life to helping others. As a therapist she was calm, thoughtful and deeply compassionate; as joint owner of the centre she created a place where both clients and colleagues felt valued, respected and supported. Her quiet leadership, meticulous care and gentle humour touched countless lives.
We remain profoundly grateful to have worked alongside her, and her legacy continues to be woven into everything we do.

Our proud history championing the human givens approach to psychotherapy
The York Human Givens Wellbeing Centre was set up in 2010 by therapists Gail Rhodes and Jenny Waddington.
“Human Givens therapy is effective because it draws on the findings from psychology and neurobiology about how people really function.
"As Human Givens therapists we do not waste time endlessly asking you to go over and analyse the past or attempting to dredge up real or imagined memories. We offer practical help that deals with mental and emotional distress in the here and now.”
They developed the centre as a hub for people to come for human givens therapy and so that therapists could be part of a supportive community where people could share ideas together.
Human Givens in the mainstream of psychotherapy and psychology
In 2022, Claire Morris and Ned Yates took on the management and leadership of the centre, building on its success and valued place in the community of York. Claire and Ned made an invaluable mark on the centre's history and development through their caring, compassionate, fun and diligent approach.
In May 2026, Emma and Ingrid began their journey and share the same commitment as people they have followed.
Their goal is to enable clients and therapists to thrive - and help the human givens approach to be in the mainstream of psychotherapy and psychology services.
