About me: I am passionate about mental health and wellbeing. I have been working in the private sector supporting people and organisations since 2008, after 14 years working in NHS mental health services and at the Department of Health as a manager, in organisational development and change, and clinical practice. Now I work in private practice at the York Centre and Leeds, and with organisations (supporting individuals and teams, reviewing mental health services and facilitating organisational change).
My approach: Clients feed back that my approach is calm, insightful and compassionate. Sessions are designed to create an experience where you can feel comfortable being yourself, to build awareness about what is happening, work out what you want and help you to achieve it. This is an equal partnership where we can explore important issues and "hold the mirror up", to be curious and make a space safe for change and growth.
People may reach out for support with a longstanding experience of mental, physical or emotional distress, or a more recent situation or transition, such as a young person’s experiences post COVID or through teenage years, a relationship challenge, family breakdown or an unexpected grief or loss, for example. My experience includes working with neurodivergent people including ADHD and autism, where people exploring their gender, and supporting people with complex health issues.
With couples and families, I use what is called a diamond approach. This has the potential for individual and couples’ sessions, depending on your preference and goals. This work may be all in-person or on video calls where relationships and families are spread out geoographically.
Qualifications, organisation memberships, training and special interests: I am a qualified Human Givens psychotherapist. I have coaching qualifications: exec coach, ADHD coach, autism coach and systemic coach. I am a qualified organisational development facilitator and trained in mediation, restorative practice and conflict resolution.
In specific areas of mental health, my training includes trauma and complex trauma, couples therapy, neurodiversity, gender identity, narcissism awareness, mindfulness, eating disorders and suicide prevention. Outside of everyday practice, I am delighted to co-chair the active and enthusiastic Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire Peer Group for HG Therapists with Emma Grey.
Member of MHGI and EMCC.
